About the event

PNE Ministries invites you to join the Making Strides movement to help save lives and end breast cancer as we know it. Your support will help the American Cancer Society to invest in groundbreaking research, provide free rides to chemo and places to stay near hospitals, and 24/7 answers and support for those facing the disease.

Our Goal is to raise $500 for Breast Cancer this year!

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Detroit will be held between 8:00 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Hart Plaza in Detroit. 

The event will feature: 

  • Survivor and thriver recognition
  • A noncompetitive 2 mile walk throughout the city of Detroit
  • Kids and adult crafts
  • Interactive survivors and thrivers tent
  • Photo op spots
  • DJ and Live Entertainment
  • Giveaways from marvelous sponsors 
  • Plus much more! 

FAQ

Do I need to register for Making Strides of Detroit to Walk? Yes, please! Please register prior to the event.

What time is the event site open? The event site will open at 7:30am and will close at 11:00am. 

When does the Walk start? While activities start at 8:00am, the walk route will open at 9:00am following a short ceremony. More details to come!

Is there a Survivor Tent? If you are a survivor, stop by the Survivor Tent to get your Survivor or Thriver sash and other goodies! Click here to learn how to claim your Survivor/Thriver t-shirt.

What kids activities will there be at the event? There will be a kid zone with activities for kids, and kids at heart! More details to come. 

Will there be snacks and beverages provided at the event? Beyond Juice, Stix & Stones Pizza, and Tres Leches n Snacks food trucks will be on site to purchase food and beverage. 

Where should I go and where is the route this year? 

The address of the area where Making Strides movement stage, DJ, food trucks, sponsor tents and activities take place is at Hart Plaza (1 Hart Plaza, Detroit MI 48226). The route will be published closer to the event, expect to start at our startline on Jeffereson and follow the 2 mile route throughout the city! As a reminder, this is a non-competitive walk, you are welcome to take it at your own pace and have FUN! 

Where can I park?

Please plan to park in paid lots and parking structures close to Hart Plaza. There is no on-site parking.  Click here to reserve your spot ahead of time through LAZ parking. 

What else can I expect that day?

Registered walkers can head to the check in tent to turn in donations or ask questions, and then head on over to the tents and activities! There will be awesome tunes from DJ Lito, vendors, food trucks, and sponsor tents will be set up around the lot with activities and giveaways.

Making Stride Detroit will notify registered participants via email if anything changes, but this event is rain or shine unless there is extreme weather.

Will restrooms be available? 

Portable toilets and a handwashing station will be available on event day.

What should I wear? 

PINK! Though it's not required, we recommend getting decked out in your favorite pink attire and keep comfort in mind. It's usually pretty chilly in October, especially in the morning, so comfortable layers are helpful.In the case of inclement weather, bring rain jackets, ponchos, etc. if you still plan to walk. 

How can I pay tribute to loved ones? You can stop by the Tribute Garden n to dedicate a tribute flower to a loved one before or after you walk.
